ORNAMIN was certified as a climate-neutral company on 17th August 2022. Based on the CO2 footprint for 2021, 912 tonnes of CO2 were retroactively offset. In 2022, the amount to be offset was already less than 600 tonnes, as measures had already been implemented, such as the switch to green gas and electricity, expansion of the in-house photovoltaic system, replacement of old production machines with new, energy-saving machines, the complete conversion of lighting to modern, long-lasting LEDs and the ongoing conversion of the company vehicle fleet to hybrid and e-mobility. Thanks to these measures, the amount of CO2 to be offset fell further to 383 tonnes in 2023.
As a result, the certification has been extended until 31 December 2024 and will continue to be so, as further measures are planned and will be implemented on an ongoing basis. CO2 emissions are offset by investing in recognised climate protection projects that support the UN sustainability goals of Agenda 2023. These projects include the energy supply in the Indian state of Uttaranchal with sustainable energy generation through a hydroelectric power plant.
In addition, ORNAMIN is now a member of the climate initiative "Together Climate Neutral 2030" organised by the East Westphalia Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Bielefeld, the Lippe Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Detmold and the OWL business community. They want to show that the business community is both willing and able to set a good example when it comes to climate protection. 'Having achieved this award, we are aiming straight away for an even better award' says Managing Director Dr Holger von der Emde. "We are constantly working on becoming even more sustainable."
